Programme Notes

Programme notes are often audiences’ first port of call when looking for guidance and the reassurance that what they’re going to listen to will give them something positive. All too often they can be written with entrenched assumptions about the audiences’ knowledge base, which can be a turn-off for newcomers.
Alison’s writing work specialises in demystifying classical music through increasing accessibility for new listeners whilst keeping things fresh and interesting for veteran audiences.
Alison has written for Academy of St-Martin-in-the-Fields, Australian String Quartet, Gramophone’s Opera Now Magazine, Southbank Sinfonia, Lapland Chamber Orchestra, and the Australian Youth Orchestra among others. They trained with Philip Sametz on the AYO’s ‘Words About Music’ program.
